After a season full of boring-as-hell races, this year’s spring race at Talladega Superspeedway was a breath of fresh air. First of all, it was awesome to see Dale Jr. running up front - about time! Second, it was great to see rookie Brad Keselowski get his first BIG Sprint Cup Series win on the superspeedway - that was awesome. But even better - and I never thought I’d say this, as I’m not a fan - was Carl Edwards’ finish. Forget about back flips, Edwards finished the race after his car took a major airborne flight in the final lap of the race by RUNNING ACROSS THE FINISH LINE a la Ricky Bobby from Talladega Nights.

WTG Carl - you and the rest of the night’s front runners made this a race to remember forever! Happy to hear that everyone checked out OK and that no one was seriously injured in that action-packed ending!

See tomorrow’s post for video from this now-classic race!

This week NASCAR announced price-cuts for tickets at Talladega and Darlington in the 2009 season. With the Talladega tickets as low as $40 each for the April and November races and the Darlington tickets as low as $35 for Mother’s Day weekend, race fans should be able to get out and see more races in 2009 even with the economic crunch in full swing.

Darlington’s Track President Chris Browning said:
“We are celebrating a historic milestone in 2009 with the 60th Season of Racing at Darlington Raceway and we want to make sure that our fans can be here for this special event,” said Browning. “We recognize that economic times are tough for everyone right now and want to do our part to help reduce the cost of attending an event at Darlington Raceway.”

And at Talladega, they recognize the hard times fans are feeling too:
“We recognize the difficult economic conditions our fans are facing, so to help we are thrilled to offer our fans a $40 ticket to a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race,” said Talladega Superspeedway President Rick Humphrey. “In 40 years of racing, no other racetrack has matched Talladega Superspeedway for sheer speed or thrilling competition.”
