• Wish I coulda been there - as I mentioned before, our local track at Perris Auto Speedway (affectionately known by the fans as “The Pas”), is a LOT of fun.  I highly recommend that anyone who considers him or herself a “true race fan” get out to a local dirt or asphalt short track and just sit in the General Admission seating - and enjoy.  It costs somewhere between $15-25 to attend these local events (sometimes cheaper with special discounts and family nights), but in my experience, it’s worth much more than the hundreds of dollars we spend on big ticket racing series events at the larger tracks.  Here’s the latest update from The PAS…

Defending Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Sprint Car Champion Mike Spencer of Temecula, Calif. led the final 23 laps to win Saturday night’s 30-lap “Kindoll Classic” at the Perris Auto Speedway. Trailing Spencer’s Grubstake storage/Madera Produce Maxim/Shaver to the checkered flag were Tony Jones, Danny Sheridan, David Cardey (from the back in a back-up car) and Garrett Hansen. The win left Spencer tied with Cardey for the point lead going into an October 10 race at Perris.

  • Now this is some sad news folks… this is what I was really HOPING we wouldn’t start to see. The Volunteer Speedway Event in Tennessee on May 8-9th has been canceled due to the current economic conditions. Local track racing will definitely be the first to feel the crunch of the economy so DO YOUR PART - get out to your local tracks and support hometown racing. Most events run $10-20 and even have special “family nights” and kids-for-free deals running. Check it out!

Due to economic concerns throughout the region, the Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Dirt Series presented by K&N Filters event scheduled for May 8-9 at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, TN, has been canceled and will not be rescheduled.

Next up for the Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Series is Little Rock’s I-30 Speedway on Saturday night, April 18, with May events to include Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, IL, on May 1 and then the Steve King Memorial at the Jetmore (KS) Motorplex on May 23-24.

  • First of all I had NO IDEA Lawton had a racetrack - I lived there for about 2 years after I got married back in ‘87-’88 - that would have definitely made it a LOT more interesting to live there! (For anyone who’s been to Ft. Sill you’ll understand - SMALL TOWN!)
