This event is one that began in 1950, it has become a marquee event that has in 2006 alone contributed over $1 million dollars to charity. The feature show itself has a restricted entry list of just under 200 cars that range from the most exotic of automobiles to American hot rods. Millions of dollars worth of auto art will be paraded in front of visitors from around the world at numerous events during the week and if you should be fortunate to be in attendance, here is a quick rundown of your schedule -

Historic Stock Car Racing Series - Offers Ride along experiences giving fans a once in a lifetime experience. NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Racing Series officials announced today that a third event at Sacramento Raceway has been added to the 2009 schedule. It was also announced that the Top Fuel class has been dropped from the class lineup at the Las Vegas Speed Spectacular.

The 40th annual Governor’s Cup event at Sacramento Raceway, Sept. 18-19 will feature Nostalgia Top Fuel as its only points category and will replace the lost TF points event at Las Vegas. The Las Vegas Speed Spectacular will continue to present points-earning competition for Groups 1 and 2.

“Due to difficulty in obtaining sponsorship for both the Top Fuel purse and the proper promotion of that category, we feel that it is in our best interest to further develop this event with Group 1 and 2 categories,” said Chris Blair, vice president of racing operations, Las Vegas Motor Speedway. “We welcome any nostalgia groups that promote Top Fuel, Funny Car and exhibition category racing to join us for this event and we will work with them and their class supporters to further grow the sport.

“We hope that once the current economic situation improves we can take a major step forward to secure an event sponsor and feature both professional nostalgia nitro classes at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.”

The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix Association and the Allegheny Chapter of the BMW CCA proudly invite you to join us for the country’s most unique BMW Celebration of 2009.

To celebrate the rich heritage of BMW, we are organizing 10 days of activities in conjunction with the 2009 PVGP. Throughout the 10 days, there will be something for everyone. The events will start with an Allegheny Chapter Driver’s School on July 10th, and includes a BMW Club Race and Picnic at BeaveRun, mid-week car shows, receptions and a tour to the Laurel Highlands.

For the past 27 years, the Schenley Park weekend has been the focus of the PVGP and no other event in the country can compare to the uniqueness of Schenley Park. If you can only come for a limited time, please plan to join us on July 17-19th. We expect to have 300 or more BMW show cars lining the fairways of Schenley Park including some very rare cars from the BMW NA collection, cars from private collectors, as well as special interest enthusiasts from across the country. All BMW owners are invited to attend regardless of year or model! Additionally, the streets of Schenley Park will once again roar with 2002s and other vintage BMWs.

The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix presented by Shop ‘n Save is the country’s largest vintage race event and the only one staged on city streets. Over 250,000 people attend the 10-day festival of car shows races and motorsport activities. Proceeds from the Grand Prix provide residential care, treatment and support for developmentally disabled individuals at the Autism Society of Pittsburgh and Allegheny Valley School.
